Board of Directors Welcomes Student Board Representative

Howard County Education FCU welcomes its third student representative onto the board.  Matthew Polterack joined the Credit Union Board of Directors in May of 2015.  Matt is a senior at Glenelg High School and a participant in the Academy of Finance, HCPSS.  The AOF places students onto local community boards to give them the opportunity to see some of the behind the scenes activities that make these organizations accomplish their mission.

Matt has had a chance to see how a non-profit financial institution deals with budget issues, equipment upgrades, development of a financial statement, policy reviews and national oversight reviews.  Having a student represented on the Board of Directors gives us the opportunity to get a different perspective on our programs and how the students see the services provided by the Credit Union.

In addition to getting Student Board Representatives, the Academy of Finance offers students the opportunity to connect with local businesses for internships.  The Credit Union has had the pleasure of two interns through this program who also served as Student Board Representatives.
