NEW NAME, NEW LOGO!

Howard County Education Federal Credit Union

At our Annual Meeting on April 24, the official announcement of our new name and logo was presented to the membership. Following the expansion of our charter to a Multiple Common Bond in January 2012, the Board of Directors felt that our name should reflect this broader membership eligibility.  Following our Strategic Planning Session in February a Board Committee was directed to decide on the new name and logo.

It will take a couple of months to complete the switch over from our old name to our new.  Members may still use the HCTA on their checks and ATM/Debit cards.  As the ATM/Debit cards are renewed the new name and logo will show up.  If you have questions or need more information please contact the office, 410 461-2257.

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Howard County Education Federal Credit Union. We are a member-owned financial institution, serving full and parttime employees of Howard County Department of Education, Maryland State Education Association, Howard County Head Start, current HCPSS high school students and immediate family members.

The Credit Union Difference
Unlike other financial institutions, credit unions are owned by its members.  The Board of Directors are democratically elected from among the members, and each member is entitled to one vote -- regardless of the amount of deposits with the Credit Union.  Credit unions are not-for-profit and there are no outside stockholders.  That means all excess profits are returned to the members in the form of higher savings rates, lower loan rates and lower fees for services than most other financial institutions.  Credit unions are well noted for the high level of service provided to their members -- and Howard County Education FCU is no exception!

Howard County Education FCU offers a wide variety of services, designed with you in mind.  From savings and certificates to personal and auto loans, you'll find your credit union a great place to take care of most of your financial needs.

Exciting New Eligibility Expansion Brings Membership Opportunities

For the first time in the history of Howard County Education FCU (formerly HCTA FCU) we have expanded our Charter from a Single Common Bond to a Multiple Common Bond.  The bond charter amendment approved by the Board of Directors at the December 2011 meeting allows the credit union to begin expanding membership to associated groups of the Howard County Public School System.

The first new group, as approved by NCUA, is all high school students in the Howard County Public School System. High School students may open an account as the primary account holder with a HCPSS student ID, and a parent or legal guardian as a joint-owner on the account.  Once the student has become a member, their immediate family members are also eligible to join.  Note that the Winter Newsletter will read only Senior Year students and Millionaire's Club members, because our final approval came just days following our newsletter deadline.  All current HCPSS High School students are eligible.

If you know of an organization or associated group who serves HCPSS and might wish to become a member organization of the Credit UInion, please have them contact Janet Oursler.
